This publication was developed by the CMAA Contract Administration Committee as a detailed expansion of the contract administration section of the CM Standards of Practice. Contract Administration Guidelines address the administrative and reporting requirements for the Construction Manager (CM) during the execution of construction projects. It is intended to supplement Chapter 6, Contract Administration, of CMAA's Construction Management Standards of Practice by providing an overview of the contract administration responsibilities on a typical project from concept to occupancy. Most projects have a unique set of contract administration requirements because of specific project characteristics, such as project type (airports, transit, healthcare facilities, courthouses, and bridges). Other project characteristics such as geographical location, union issues, congested urban sites, language, and currency rates require that the CM implement appropriate contract administration measures to address all of these issues. Whether a project is being delivered under a traditional design-bid-build, multiple prime, CMAR, or design-build contract will significantly impact the CM's responsibility for project management and contract administration.
